Hundertwasser … Architecture and projects in Germany

Hundertwasser … Architecture and projects in Germany

Photography, video, reproduction and documentation material

In 1964, the first major exhibition of Friedensreich Hundertwasser‘s work in Germany took place at the Kestner Gesellschaft in Hanover. Sixty years later, an exhibition at the Kunsthalle Faust in the capital of Lower Saxony explores the artistic and architectural legacy of one of the most famous artists of the 20th century in Germany.

Beginning with the life of Friedensreich Hundertwasser, the central section of the project presents around 20 large-format text panels with over a dozen of Hundertwasser’s building projects, some of which have become real crowd-pullers, as well as plans for a wide variety of architectural projects that never reached the realisation stage.

The exhibition also documents Hundertwasser’s artistic motivation, his environmental campaigns, manifestos and posters on further panels and in the video lounge (including Hundertwasser in the programme ‘Make a Wish’, 1984), which give the environmental activist a new appearance in the current context of the worsening global environmental and climate crisis.

Furthermore, a performance based on his famous ‘Munich Naked Speech’ and a black line spanning the entire room, which takes up the ‘Hamburg Line’ campaign, bring the public closer to Hundertwasser’s world of thought.

Extensive art education programmes will also be offered during the exhibition period. For example, there will be workshops on the painterly and sculptural realisation of Hundertwasser’s ‘Window Law’. During the entire exhibition period, visitors can continue to design the window façades they have started in the workshop. There is also the opportunity to design your own posters on environmental protection in a workshop based on the famous artist and then compare them with AI-generated examples in a separate exhibition area.
